Don’t you love conversations? Especially if they are lubricated with some unhealthy beverages? I’ve had a million of these. Conversations, I mean (Ok, beverages also). And this is what “Putting” is all about. Putting is not a casual drink or two you have with a passing acquaintance. It is not a formal drink with a business associate. You Put when you have a good solid session with friends. The discussions could be about politics, sports, business, current-affairs, society or whatever. As long as there is intensity. The arguments should be passionate. The laughter should be loud. The language should be coarse. And manners should be non-existent. This blog tries to simulate a good Putting session on the web. Unfortunately, the beverages are purely imaginary. But then, at least there is no risk of a hangover.
If you want to know a little more about me, here we go.
I used to go under the name of K. Ramesh in school (DAV Gopalapuram, Chennai), and m’dris in college (IIT-Madras and IIM-Ahmedabad), but from the time I started working , I have more or less settled on Ramesh K Srivats. But I like it when people call me Rambo. Very few people do.
I spent many years in advertising. I stuck to agencies which, like me, enjoyed changing their name. I spent over 10 years in HTA (now called JWT) and 5 in Rediffusion DY&R (now called Rediffusion Y&R). Then, one day, I quit. I returned my Vaio, bought a Macbook; chucked my Blackberry, acquired an iPhone; and started a company called Hungry & Foolish Creative Products. For two years, a small bunch of outstanding people (that was us) hung out in an awesome office and generated a bunch of ideas ranging from TV shows to desktop apps. But I realized that what really gave me kicks was stuff involving zeroes and ones. So I shut down Hungry & Foolish Creative Products. In 2011, I started a company called TenTenTen Digital Products that creates web and mobile apps which can become powerful brand assets. We’ve done work for Nivea, MakeMyTrip, Kingfisher, and we created and run the absolutely awesome (though I say so myself) IPL Fantasy League.
All this starting-up and shutting-down has meant that I have had an enormous amount of free time, which I’ve spent doing, what I love most. Reading every book, watching every cricket match, meeting every friend, laughing at every politician, emptying every bottle, and generally verbing every noun. So that’s where I am.
And yes, I live in Bangalore, so if you want to meet up or something, write to me at email@example.com. I’m a hedonist, atheist & libertarian, so I’m sure we’ll have a lot to talk about.
